The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is the nation’s foremost membership and advocacy organization for people with hearing loss. Information and Support
There are 48 million people with hearing loss in the United States. More than 60,000 individuals with hearing loss, their families, or hearing health care professionals have contacted HLAA asking for material, resources, support and referrals. Staff provides personalized responses to requests.
National Support Network
The HLAA national support network includes the Washington, DC area office, state organizations, and local chapters. Local chapters and state organizations provide the person-to-person information, education, support, and advocacy that open the world of communication to people with hearing loss. HLAA’s national support network has changed the lives of thousands of people with hearing loss.

With nearly 900,000 hits in 2016, our website is one of the most visited and comprehensive sites related to hearing loss in the world. HLAA’s online presence is extended even further with up-to-the-minute news and information posted through social media. Our Facebook page (HearingLossAssociation) has nearly 12,000 “likes” and our Twitter page (@HLAA) has more than 8,000 followers.
Hearing Life magazine (previously Hearing Loss Magazine)
Published bimonthly since 1980 with a readership of 50,000, this award-winning magazine tells real-life stories of people with hearing loss and their families, informs readers of cutting-edge technology, and provides updates about HLAA’s advocacy efforts to create a better future for people with hearing loss. The HLAA e-News of current events and advocacy news complements the magazine.
A walk to raise awareness about hearing loss, help to eradicate the stigma associated with it and raise funds to provide information and support for people with hearing loss. With an average of 1,100 attendees, the HLAA Convention is the nation’s most extensive educational program and trade show for people with hearing loss.
Network of Consumer Hearing Assistive Technology Trainers
Provides a year-long train-the-trainer course raising awareness about and advocating for the use of hearing assistive technology.
Educational webinars are presented by top professionals in the field of hearing loss at a minimum of once per month. Each live webinar is captioned and recorded for replay.
Hearing Loss Support Specialist Training (HLSST)
An online, distance-learning program teaching core knowledge about hearing loss to consumers, those who serve people with hearing loss and those who want to learn more about available resources.
Public Policy and Advocacy
HLAA staff advocate for equal access for those with hearing loss. We work with industry and government to expand access to hearing health care, telecommunications, transportation, and public places. HLAA also promotes self-advocacy and empowerment of people with hearing loss by providing the tools needed to advocate for access at work, in the community and even at home.
